Details
The last refurbishment on this 200-year hall was undertaken in 1979 and many of the components have not been renewed since. The key points of the refurbishment included:
- The Main Hall Floor – sand the floor to bare wood, re-varnish and seal, this made the floor look brand new and a focal point of the refurbishment.
- Central heating system – Strip back and replacement of the existing central heating and boiler system. This included fitting a new stud partition wall to hide the pipe services between the radiators to give the radiator a modern floating effect.
- Kitchen – we removed the dated existing kitchen and replaced this with a contemporary modern kitchen complete with a range cooker and extractor fan, an instant hot water tap, a hand washing station, built in appliances, and a central kitchen island for extra storage. This was completed with non-slip vinyl flooring and hygiene cladding wall sheets.
- Washrooms – full strip out of existing dated gentlemen’s, ladies and disabled toilets. We replaced these with modern and contemporary sinks with monobloc tap systems, new cubicles, LED spot lighting, LED mirrors, branded WCs and fashionable wall boarding. We also created a new baby changing station making use of an old store cupboard. The disabled toilet was fully fitted out a Doc M Pack to meet current building regulations.
- Bar and Lounge – we stripped out the existing bar and kitchen facilities. We then replaced this with a bespoke bar complete with LED lighting throughout, we also supplied and fitted a new kitchenette area complete with another instant hot water boiling system. In the lounge area, we upgraded the carpet tiles to a new graphite grey colour to match the new colour scheme.
- Automatic Door – we removed the old timber and glass doors and replaced this with an anthracite aluminium automatic door complete with push pads.
- Miscellaneous – The Village Hall was fully rewired including a new track and LED panel lighting, new consume unit, modern switches and sockets throughout. We also replaced all flooring throughout using non-slip vinyl and carpet tiling. We fully repainted the whole hall including the stairs, doors and walls (including 3 feature walls)
The Village Hall in Shireoaks has led an interesting life starting off as a chapel of ease and then becoming the village school, after the school moved the hall was converted to the village hall but after many years of continued use by the community it was time to refresh and refurbish the building so that it would continue be an excellent meeting place for the community. When we set out on this ambitious project we were impressed by how Lindrick captured our vision for how we wanted the hall to look. Also being able to manage the whole of the project and provide internally all of the key trades was a key deciding factor.
Lindrick also recognised that this was a community project and were keen to support us in what we wanted to achieve. We felt confident from start that this was going to be a partnership that worked well and meeting every week with Dan and Adam meant that we had a clear picture of how things were progressing. Dan and Adam and all of the people that worked on the project have done an excellent job and it was clear that they really cared about how the hall would look when it was finished.
We now have a truly beautiful Village Hall with a fantastic new kitchen, new toilets including an accessible toilet and separate baby changing facilities. The heating system has been completely replaced and new LED lighting installed throughout the building. We also now have a new bar area and additional cupboard space which is going to be really appreciated by everyone who uses the hall. A BIG thank you to all of the team for an excellent job
